Social Skills Groups

Following Michelle Garcia Winner's Think Social curriculum, The Swain Center offers social skills groups for school-aged children ages 4-7 and 8-14. Older school-aged children are considered on an individual basis. The groups are limited to 4-6 participants and scheduled once weekly for 90 minutes for 16 weeks. WHEN TUTORING DOESN'T WORK

The Swain Center is pleased to be offering The PACE Program for Processing And Cognitive Enhancement in Santa Rosa.

Overview of the PACE Program:

The PACE program is designed to uncover the processing skills that are not sufficient for proper learning, and will train and strengthen them so that they are properly developed. Without these skills, it will be almost impossible for an individual to learn and succeed even with extensive tutoring. Children who lack processing skills tend to avoid their schoolwork because it is difficult, discouraging, and frustrating.

Does your child exhibit one or more of the following behaviors:

• Unable to sit still
• Cannot stay on task for any length of time and is easily distracted
• Avoids work that seems complicated or hard
• Has difficulty comprehending or remembering
• Has problems sounding out words
• Does written work very slowly
• Often fails to complete a task
• Has difficulty copying material
• Often needs instructions repeated
• Has difficulty with reading and spelling
• Makes reversals (confuses "b" and "d")
• Is disorganized and frustrated when studying
• Makes frequent, "careless" errors

PACE can identify and successfully treat learning problems that are often reflected in the above behaviors.
