Social Skills Groups

Following Michelle Garcia Winner's Think Social curriculum, The Swain Center offers social skills groups for school-aged children ages 4-7 and 8-14. Older school-aged children are considered on an individual basis. The groups are limited to 4-6 participants and scheduled once weekly for 90 minutes for 16 weeks. at The Swain Center

Following Michelle Garcia Winner's Think Social curriculum, The Swain Center offers social skills groups for school-aged children ages 4-7 and 8-14. Older children are considered on an individual basis. The groups are limited to 4-6 participants and scheduled once weekly for 90 minutes for 16 weeks and at the following levels:

    Beginning Level Targets

  • Working and learning in a group
  • Identifying and using expected and unexpected behaviors
  • Becoming a social detective
  • Thinking about others

    Intermediate Level Targets

  • Conversatino listening skills
  • Starting and maintaining conversations
  • Developing and using social curiosity
  • Asking appropriate questions
  • Using appropriate comments

    Advanced Level Target

  • Critical thinking and problem solving in social situations
  • Compromising and thinking of other's perspectives
  • Personal boundaries and space
  • Understanding and using humor
